Swell Generation Under Extra‐Tropical Storms

چکیده

Storms propagate over the ocean and create moving patches of strong winds that generate swell systems. Here, we describe dynamics wave generation under a storm by using simple parametric model development, forced temporally spatially varying wind field. This framework reveals how surface storms determine origin amplitude events. Swell systems are expected to originate from locations different than high-wind forcing regions. is confirmed physically informed optimization method back-triangulates common source their dispersion slopes, simultaneously measured at five wave-buoy locations. Hence, fetch with reanalysis can predict displacement between highest observed area. The further shows storm's peak speed key factor determining energy since it determines gradients lead spatial convergence into much smaller area fetch. then be described follow three-stage process outlines focus where enhanced slightly displaced maximum analysis provides an improved understanding fetches for extra-tropical may help identify biases in forecast models, air-sea fluxes, upper-ocean mixing estimations.

Economic costs of extratropical storms under climate change: An application of FUND

Extratropical cyclones have attracted some attention in climate policy circles as a possible significant damage factor of climate change. This study conducts an assessment of economic impacts of increased storm activities under climate change with the integrated assessment model FUND 3.4. In the base case, the direct economic damage of enhanced storms due to climate change amounts to $2.4 billi...

Will Extratropical Storms Intensify in a Warmer Climate?

Extratropical cyclones and how they may change in a warmer climate have been investigated in detail with a high-resolution version of the ECHAM5 global climate model. A spectral resolution of T213 (63 km) is used for two 32-yr periods at the end of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries and integrated for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) A1B scenario. Extremes of pressure,...

Prevention of destructive tropical and extratropical storms , hurricanes , tornadoes , dangerous thunderstorms , and catastrophic

Tropical cyclones and storms, hurricanes, powerful thunderclouds, which generate tornadoes, destructive ex-tratropical cyclones, which result in catastrophic floods, are the powerful cloud systems that contain huge amount of water. According to the hypothesis argued in this paper, an electric field coupled with powerful clouds and electric forces play a cardinal role in supporting this huge mas...

Nonlinear Extrapolation of Inflow and Infiltration Behavior under Heavy Storms

A two-sample nonlinear heteroscedastic regression model is described and proposed for the purpose of evaluating a sewer basin rehabilitation by quantifying the reduction in rain-derived inflow and infiltration RDII . The proposed methodology is used at the second stage of RDII studies after RDII volumes of individual rain events are estimated. The proposed methodology utilizes boundary conditio...
